Neptūnus. Antiq god of freshwater and sea in the roman mythology. From the time of the Punic Wars (264-146 BC), when the Romans demonstrate their naval superiority, Neptūnus has been equated with the Greek god Poseidon. Neptūnus became not only a freshwater deity but a god of the seas. Most iconic artwork of the french sculptor Vital-Dubray, " Neptune " was made in 1856. Edited by the foundry Ducel from Pocé-sur-Cisse (1823-1878), they made many models that can be found in France and around the world. (Germany, Switzerland, Spain, California, Peru, Ecuador, Brasil, Mexico…) This specific model can be found at the original foundry location, Pocé-sur-Cisse (1625 inhabitants), 10km from my home ! When I found this statue, I didn't expect so much history about it !
