3D scan of a skull and mandible of the mosasaurid Platecarpus coryphaeus. He was an aquatic predator during the late Cretaceous, living about 81–85 million years ago. Mosasaurids are members of the order Squamata and are therefore relatives of lizards and snakes. Fossils of Platecarpus are found predominantly in North America, but were perhaps also occurring in Europe, Africa & New Zealand. This skull of Platecarpus coryphaeus will be on display in the upcoming exhibition “CineSaurs" that opens on October 19, 2021 at the NHM Vienna. 3D scan of a Komodo dragon (Varanus komodoensis), the largest lizard species in the world. The males grow up to 3 m long and weigh 70 kg. The Komodo dragon lives on the island of Komodo and the surrounding Indonesian islands in savannahs and dry forests.
This specimen is Number 71 of the NHM Top 100 and can be found in Hall 28 of the Natural History Museum Vienna.

3D scan of the southern elephant seal, Mirounga leoninae. This specimen is from the Falkland Islands in the South Atlantic Ocean and became part of the collection of the NHM Vienna in 1901. Very few museums own a specimen this large, even fewer have one that is more than 100-years-old!
The southern elephant seal is Number 86 of the NHM Top 100 and can be found in Hall 34 of the NHM Vienna next to Steller’s sea cow.
