The Smith & Wesson Model 61, also called the Escort or Pocket Escort, is a self-defense pistol that was produced from 1970 to 1973. It is a five-shot (plus one in the chamber) semi-automatic recoil-operated pistol firing the .22 Long Rifle cartridge. They came in two variations, blued with faux-wood grips and nickel-plated with faux-ivory grips. The pistol has been mainly forgotten except for its inclusion in the 1976 film “Taxi Driver" by Martin Scorsese. Robert De Niro's character, Travis Bickle, creates a quick-draw device that he uses during the shoot-out at the end of the film.
