A modified form of it became the Helmet, Steel, Mark I in Britain and the M1917 Helmet in the US. Colloquially, it was called the shrapnel helmet, battle bowler, Tommy helmet, tin hat, and in the United States the doughboy helmet. It was also known as the dishpan hat, tin pan hat, washbasin, battle bowler (when worn by officers), and Kelly helmet. The German Army called it the Salatschüssel (salad bowl). The term Brodie is often misused. Casca a fost un model de origine olandez, produsă inițial prin contract de firma olandeza Verblifa. Ca urmare a ocuapției Olandei de către armata germană în 1940 Armata Română a rămas singurul utilizator al modelului care a devenit un simbol emblematic al ostașului român în cel de-al doilea razboi mondial. Casca a ajuns să fie produsă de industria românească și a fost păstrată în uz până în anii 90. (la începutul perioadei comuniste a fost înlocuită cu modele sovietice, dar a fost re-introdusă în 1973, cu modificări, datorita distanțării de URSS).
