In Edo era Japan, Komodaru were used to transport sake from Osaka area to Tokyo area. In order to protect the sake inside of barrels, “komo” were used and this was the beginning of Komodaru.
Later, branding or printing the sake manufacturers logos on the barrels.
Even now, all Komodaru were hand made by skilled artisans out of Japanese ceder, bamboo, and polypropylene.
