Following Irish independence, these lands became state property. In the 1970s a technical college, which later became the University of Limerick, was built at Plassey. Plassey is an area of Limerick City, about 5km upstream on the River Shannon from Limerick City centre. It is located near the suburbs of Castletroy and Monaleen. The University of Limerick has its main campus in the area, which is the site of Plassey House, a country house that serves as the University's administrative centre. The University's other main campus is located across the River Shannon, with the two campuses connected by two bridges. A Samian ware platter from Falkirk, possibly associated with Camelon fort. It is 5cm high and 18cm in diameter. It was made near Lezoux in France and the maker’s mark ’ RIIOGENIM ‘, which translates as ‘Ritogenus’, is stamped on the inside of the base. Fine dishes such as these would have been used by the Roman officers and their families stationed in the forts along the Antonine Wall. The Antonine Wall stretched right across Scotland, from the Clyde to the Forth. Constructed around 142 AD, and occupied for only 20 years, the remains of its ramparts, steep ditches, forts and bathhouses are still visible today. Since 2008, it has been part of the Frontiers of the Roman Empire World Heritage Site.
