The island of Rapa Nui or Easter island is believed to have been first settled in the 1200’s by polynesian voyagers. Located 3,500 kilometers (2,100 miles) from the The settlers to the island carved giant stone statues called moai which were carved to represent individuals.

Estas estatuas erigidas sobre los ahu o plataformas son el símbolo por excelencia de Rapa Nui. Sobre estos se encuentran los moai, figuras antropomorfas talladas en diversas formas y tamaños que representan a un integrante de cada familia en la cual se encuentra ubicado cada ahu.
