Sculpture of standing Buddha, made up of a single huge granite stone. This piece of history is located at swayambhunath temple in Kathmandu. Built in 10th century, it is one of the oldest sculpture at swayambhu. It is located at the front side of the hill, on the old route to the stupa. Word “swayambhu” in saskrit means self-manifestation meaning it was not made by human hands, but instead is naturally arisen, or generated by nature. So, people here believe the whole hill rose itself including most of the sculptures inside. There are today other new routes including the west routes and new staircases to the stupa at the hill but the old route seems to hold important sculptures on the way, some even dating back to 7th/10th century. Gilt bronze statue of Shakyamuni Buddha preaching Tang and Five Dynasties Unearthed from the underground palace of Leifeng Pagoda in Hangzhou in 2001, it is 68 cm high. The Buddha statue has a high meat bun, spiral hair, slender eyebrows, ears hanging down the shoulders, and three silkworm patterns on the neck. Wearing a double-collared hanging cassock, the hem is covered with a lotus seat. Inside is a monk’s branch, and a silk belt is tied in front of the chest. The left hand caresses the knee, the right hand casts the Dharma seal, and sits on the lotus platform in knotted lotus. Under the lotus pedestal, there are Panlong columns, double-layer Xumizuo and square beds. The coiled dragon goes up around the column, holding up the lotus seat, and the column is embedded in the Xumi seat. There are two flame-style pot doors on each side of Xumizuo.
