Crabs were important motifs in Cotzumalhuapa art. The flat upper surface of Palo Verde Monument 4 suggests that this sculpture may have functioned as a seat or altar. The claws and legs of a crab are combined with the head of a mythical reptile. Palo Verde was an important center in the Cotzumalhuapa hinterlands and boasts a magnificent set of monumental sculptures. Currently in the El Baúl Museum. Simboliza el amor divino que siente la Iglesia católica por el corazón de Jesucristo y su entrega hacia la humanidad.
Este culto se expandió por España a través de los jesuitas, compañía de la que dependió la Facultad hasta su expulsión en 1767.
