It is commonly known as the Tasmanian tiger (because of its striped lower back) or the Tasmanian wolf (because of its canid-like characteristics). Intensive hunting, disease, the introduction of dogs, and human encroachment into its habitat is blamed for its extinction. The last known live animal was captured in 1930 in Tasmania. Fossil containing two Taxocrinus Meeki, one young Taxocrinus Meeki, two Pentrimites stems and one Platyceras. Lower Carboniferous. Crawfordsville, Indiana. Taxocrinus is a crinoid and Pentrimites is a Blastoid; both of the phylum Echinodermata. Platyceras is a Gastropod; phylum Mollusca. This specimen is a good illustration of Platyceras being commensal on Taxocrinus.
