Peça do Museu Monográfico de Conimbriga • Inventário: A 3992 (MMC-MN, exposição permanente). • Séc. I d.C. Pança arredondada sobre pequena base, bordo introvertido, com dois pequenos prolongamentos sobre as asas, que são circulares. Toda a pança é decorada por ramos de romãzeira com um pequeno pássaro no centro. A peça foi produzida em molde, sendo revestida por vidrado de chumbo, verde no exterior, amarelado no interior. Este tipo de vasos foi produzido na região de Aquileia (Norte de Itália), imitando objetos de prata. Os conjuntos dessas pratas (nomeadamente os da região da Baía de Nápoles) mostram que se tratava de vasos para beber. CAT: Es tracta d’una llàntia tardorepublicana amb petites aletes laterals decoratives en forma de llaç i amb la nansa i el pic de forma triangular reintegrats posteriorment en una antiga restauració. El disc està decorat amb una escena de cacera entre un venator, és a dir, un especialista en la lluita amb animals en els jocs o ludi romans, i un felí, possiblement una pantera.
Les llànties, lucernae en llatí, eren utensilis fets de pedra, terracota o fins i tot metall que en època romana servien per il·luminar de manera artificial les estances de les llars. La llum era originada a partir d’una metxa o metxes que, en encendre’s, cremaven lentament gràcies a la càrrega d’oli d’oliva que hi havia a l’interior de la llàntia.

This exquisite drinking cup for atol in the collection of the Snite Museum of Art at the University of Notre Dame (cat. # 1982.053) is adorned along the rim with jaguar prints on the inside and hieroglyphs on the outside. The previously unpublished inscription is one of the finest examples of seventh-century Maya caligraphy and contains rare variants of number 9 and TZ’AK. There are no personal names or place names. The text only states that the cup belonged to “the artisan of the eternal lord”. The orthography of the inscription is rather unusual: the scribe apparently tried to arrange the text so that it would consist of 20 characters in 11 segments (blocks) with an extra visual emphasis on the word “eternal (bolon tz’akbuul)”.
