1.Gluteus Maximus
The large Glute muscles extend the hip joint during the squat.
When the Glute max contracts it essentially pulls your femur (upper leg) back in line with your pelvis.
The Glute Max is one of the primary muscles responsible for this motion making it a primary mover of the squat exercise.
2.Quadriceps femoris (Quads)
The Quadriceps Femoris is the large 4 head muscle group at the front of your thigh.
This group of muscles is responsible for knee extension. (Taking the leg from a bent knee position back to a straight leg position)
3.Rectus Femoris.
The Rectus Femoris is the only muscle head of the Quads that crosses over the hip joint and attaches onto the Pelvis.
