Assignment for GAP at DAE Howest, a complex object, theme “optics". I chose this Red Dot scope from Vortex Optics. Modeled in Maya, for the Highpoly I used a mix of techniquessome subd modeling in Maya, some crease tool always in Maya, some retopologizing/dynameshing in ZBrush. This semi stylized character was a LOT of work. Like for real. I had a lot of fun though! Especially the texturing process really brought her to shine! I did struggle quite a lot with the face though, and it still didn’t quite turn out as I wanted it to. However, I think it turned out neat overall.

Magic gyroscope with celtic inspiration. Made and animated in 3DsMax with textures made in Substance.
The FBX comes with a seamless loop of the bronze ring and the little obsidian sphere both rotating around the big one which is rotating too. I named this object a magic gyroscope as the overall artefact reminds the design of those objects yet the movements are made to remind those of stars and planets.
Both spheres are pierced on top and bottom so the model only uses 4 sides polygons.
I think the object would fit nicely into a fantastic story, as lore or decoration.
