The Mercury based Shin Sei Development Corporation's forbidden mobile suit utilizing the new permet mineral and the controversial “GUND Format" used for human augmentation making it in turn a Gundam. Although it's a mobile suit which can be piloted by regular pilots its performance will drastically increase when piloted by Suletta Mercury. It's fitted with a Beam Rifle, Bit-Stave Shield, two Beam Sabers and Beam Vulcans on the forehead.

The fifth of twelve experimental weapons known as Gundams, the Durandal serves as the base for future mobile suits produced by the Commonwealth Space Forces. It was originally designed as a testbed, capable of equipping a variety of parts for testing purposes. Its weapons and equipment are built around the use of photons. After testing, it’s decomissioned and stored for future study at the Commonwealth Cold Storage Facility on Ceres. It later returns to active service during an assault on the Ceres facility, engaging in various battles throughout the rest of the war. The Durandal is shown with standard deployment gear; a hard light, or “ether” rifle capable of generating a ether blade.
