This long forgotten gate leads to the Queen's Gardens, where generations of royal ladies are said to have hidden their most precious secrets. Built in the Netherlands in 1597, the Roter Lowe (Red Lion) was a versatile 18 gun scouting vessel. Bought in 1601 by the Council of Knigsberg on account of the Elector of Brandenburg. It was in service as a vedette-boat in Pillau from 1602 to 1605 under captain Peter Hintze’s command.

The runes ingraved in stone are Viking runes - “The helm of awe” and “Vegvisir”.
