The morphology of a flower, or its form and structure, can be considered in two parts: the vegetative part, consisting of non-reproductive structures such as petals; and the reproductive or ual parts. A stereotypical flower is made up of four kinds of structures attached to the tip of a short stalk or axis, called a receptacle. Each of these parts or floral organs is arranged in a spiral called a whorl. The four main whorls (starting from the base of the flower or lowest node and working upwards) are the calyx, corolla, androecium, and gynoecium. Together the calyx and corolla make up the non-reproductive part of the flower called the perianth, and in some cases may not be differentiated. This huge sculpture stands in the middle of Bordeaux (France). When I walked by, I was stunned by this “half flat” sculpture, and shot it with my phone. I was realy impressed by the very realistic rendering, although most of the volume has been flattened.
Another feature worth noting : its proportions take into account the fact that the viewer is on the ground, so that the upper part of the head is much larger than it should be , to compensate for the perspective. This is a technique that has been know for a long time, (used by Michelangelo), but it’s interesting to see how it applies here.
It’s 7 meter high, and because of this I had some difficulty reconstructing the top parts. 3D Model is ready to download for free, this model contains 112484 polygons.
