Ce sextant, a fait partie de l’armement du Joshua, le bateau du célèbre navigateur Bernard Moitessier, « le vagabond des mers du Sud ». Instrument inventé pour la navigation marine, il permet de se localiser en mesurant l'angle entre l'horizon et un objet lointain (clocher, montagne) ou un astre (Soleil, Lune ou étoile). Il est composé d'une petite lunette, pour viser l'horizon, de deux miroirs (qui projettent l'image de l'objet visé), d'un bras mobile et d'un arc de cercle gradué sur lequel on lit l’angle formé entre l’objet visé et l’horizon. L'angle d'ouverture est de 60°, d'où le nom de l'instrument. N° d’inv. : MMLR.004.604.1 issu des collections du musée maritime de La Rochelle (17 - France).
