After the Galactic Civil War, the fledgling New Republic saw need for multi-role vessels that could be manufactured quickly and in number for defense, exploration, and response to any lingering Imperial Remnant threats. They looked to Kuat Drive Yards to create a vessel that improved upon the popular concept of the EF-76 Nebulon B. As the Clone Wars pushed into their fourth year, the Republic began to look back at existing ships in service and determine how best they could be preserved and improved to increase survivability and compatibility with other ships in the fleet. One such ship that underwent multiple improvements was the Arquitens-class Light Cruiser.
A new bridge module was installed using standardized Command and Control (C2) systems already in place on the Venator and Acclamator, the engines were brought up to current standards along with structural adjustments to allow for more efficient cooling, and the ship’s weapons were rearranged and more escape pods installed for crew use in emergencies.

The Akagi was an aircraft carrier build by the Imperial Japanese Navy and part of the first air fleet (the Kido Butai). She was originally laid down as an Amagi-class battlecruiser, but was converted to an aircraft carrier because of the Washington Naval Treaty. She was sunk in the Battle of Midway on 5 June 1942.
